Switzerland: Top managers, Top salaries in Europe

The top managers of Swiss companies are the best paid in Europe. The average value of wages received last year by the leaders of the seven Swiss companies included among the 100 largest European amounted to 8.77 million euro.

Compared to 2014 there has been an increase of almost 15%, according to research published today by the Willis Towers Watson consulting. Behind the Swiss, Spaniards rank with 7.18 million euro, then the British (6.78) and the Germans (5).

The paycheck richer, amounting to 20.85 million euro, was collected by Indian Rakesh Kapoor, CEO of the British multinational Reckitt Benckiser, which ranks before the giant beer Anheuser-Busch Inbev. In third place UBS, with the chairman of the management Sergio Ermotti (13,110). Roche (10.650) exceeded Novartis (10.6) and is in fifth place.

The good performance of the business has led several companies to pay higher bonuses, explain the authors of the study. Also there have been increases in base wages.

In the ranking only the manager remained in office throughout the year have been included: in this way to explain the exclusion of the former Credit Suisse CEO Brady Dougan and his successor Tidjane Thiam.

According to Willis Towers Watson, the ordinance that applies the Minder initiative on illegal wages has led to increased participation of the shareholders, but had no influence on the level of compensation.

That may change next year, when the EU could issue guidelines as part of the securities laws which may have an impact on Switzerland.
