Switzerland is the best attractive country for talent

Switzerland placed first overall in international university Insead’s 2017 Global Talent Competitive Index (GTCI); the annual study, released by international graduate university Insead in partnership with Adecco and the Human Capital Leadership Institute of Singapore (HCLI), measures a nation’s competitiveness based on the quality of talent that it can produce, attract and retain.
This year’s report explores the effects of technological change on talent competitiveness, arguing that while jobs at all levels continue to be replaced by machines, technology is also creating new opportunities.
Switzerland and Singapore occupy the top spots in GTCI 2017, with four Nordic countries in the top 10 (Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway). The United Kingdom and the United States rank third and fourth respectively.
While Switzerland excels at offering an ideal economic environment and retaining domestically-developed talent, Singapore leads the way in attracting and enabling its global talent pool.
This year’s edition also saw the launch of the inaugural Global Cities Talent Competitiveness Index (GCTCI), because talented individuals tend to focus less on which country to go to and more on which city to live in. Cities are therefore, increasingly engaging in their own means to attract, retain and develop talent, making them a crucial part of talent competitiveness. Following a similar methodology to the GTCI ranking, the GCTCI ranking tells us that the leaders, Copenhagen, Zurich and Helsinki, in addition to being consistently high performers in quality-of-life indicators, have strong physical and information infrastructure and strong international links.
Bruno Lanvin, who authored the new cities ranking, said: “Cities are emerging as global players on the talent competition scene.
“The initial GCTCI rankings show that although megacities such as San Francisco, Madrid or Paris are among the leaders, smaller cities such as Copenhagen, Zurich, Gothenburg, or Dublin are competitors to be reckoned with.
