Switzerland: employers forecast a positive new Year in job market

Swiss employers are expecting an upswing in recruitment in the first three months of 2018, the most upbeat they have been for seven years, a survey showed Tuesday.

The report by the Swiss recruitment agency Manpower consulted 759 employers, predicting the outlook for recruitment in the first quarter of 2018 to be three percent, the most optimistic forecast since the first quarter of 2011.

Business school ranking: LBS on the Top

The Financial Times has published the 2017 edition of its European Business School Ranking, which is based on the performance of each business school’s MBA, EMBA, Master in Management and Executive Education programs. The top 10 in this year’s ranking shows only a minor shuffling from last year.

For the fourth year in a row, London Business School leads the ranking, even though the school’s position in the FT’s Global MBA Ranking dropped this year, from third to sixth.

London house prices fall again, Brexit effect?

Two separate house price surveys published Monday, report a further decline in London property prices in September and October. According to the monthly house price index from Acadata and LSL Property Services, the average house price in England and Wales fell 0.1% on the month and rose 1.3% on the year, in September. However, excluding London and the south east, annual house price inflation was 3.3% higher.

Switzerland among e-commerce leader, UN says

For the third straight year, Luxembourg has held on to its position atop UNCTAD’s ranking of 143 countries’ capacity to support online shopping and other business-to-consumer e-commerce. Among the top 10 economies in the 2017 UNCTAD B2C E-commerce Index, seven are European while three are from the Asia-Pacific region.

The index, first published in 2015, draws on data on Internet use, secure servers, use of financial accounts (including mobile money accounts) and the reliability of postal deliveries, and shows that e-commerce readiness varies by region.

Switzerland may vote on a nationwide burqa ban

Switzerland could become the latest country to ban facial coverings worn by some Muslim women after activists collected more than the 100,000 signatures required to put the proposal to a national vote.

A committee handed in the signatures to the Federal Chancellery in Bern for a people’s initiative on the issue. The federal authorities and parliament must now decide upon it, the Swiss News Agency reported.
