Qatar increases stake in British Airways to 20%

British Airways increasing talk Arabic. Qatar Airways has announced that it has reached the 20.01% stake in the former British flag carrier. It is the fourth time in three months that increases its shareholding in Anglo-Spanish group that includes, among others, British Airways, Iberia and Vueling, taking advantage of more than 20% decline blamed by the vote on Brexit.

"The recent enhancement of one of the world's leading aviation has allowed us to increase our shareholding in IAG,"  Akbar al-Baker confirmed, CEO of the fund of Qatar.

The European regulations, however, prohibit a non-EU carrier to exceed 49% of the capital; however, with the release of the UK from the European Union, it would drop its veto on holding shares more than 49% of EU companies by non-EU former shareholders.
The Government of His Majesty, however, will sign bilateral agreements to circumvent this impasse and maintain flights to the US and European Union.
