Referendum "cash cows": all cantons slam proposal
Swiss voters rejected sharply the referendum known by the term "cash cows". On Sunday consultation 70.8% of the citizens who went to the polls said no; also in any canton, the initiative has found a majority.
If the rejection did not surprise, the percentage of votes against was remarkable. The last survey conducted by gfs.berne on behalf of SSR let it portends a tighter result: the share of opposites was in fact 49%, while that of 40% of the supporters.
Finance Minister Ueli Maurer, declaring himself satisfied with the outcome, stressed that the federal treasury can breathe a sigh of relief. For Maurer, the result is a clear vote against the claims made by a single group. "The population has ruled for a balance between different spending of the federal government," said voices, adding that the road traffic problems can be solved in another way.
Andreas Burgener, director of the association of importers Auto-Switzerland, has for his part said he was disappointed but does not intend to lower your arms: "The fight goes on," he said, referring to the upcoming parliamentary debates on the Fund for national roads and agglomeration traffic (FOSTRA).
The text called for the mineral oil tax levied on fuels were used exclusively to finance the roads. The goal was to improve the road infrastructure and avoid probable gaps in financing, due to the drop in revenue (lower fuel consumption).
