SNB stronger on foreign currency reserves

The SNB's foreign currency reserves continue to get stronger: they amounted to 630.34 billion francs in October, about 2.25 billion more than in September.

The total reserves without gold stood at 639.09 billion francs, up from 633.73 billion in August, as the figures provided by the institute to the International Monetary Fund.

In September, foreign exchange reserves expanded to 1.13 billion francs, a growth rate far below that of the previous months. In August, they had increased by 11 billion after over 6 billion in June and July.

The progression persists from the beginning of the year, except for an interlude in February when there was a decline of 3.9 billion. The growth, then, started again: 14 billion in March and 11.1 in April.

The most marked increase from June 2012 was registered last December with an amount of 32 billion francs. These figures do not allow, however, to see if the central bank has been particularly active in the foreign exchange market.
