Swiss GDP thanks Great Regions for growth

The gross domestic product grew between 2013 and 2014 in all Great Regions of Switzerland according to data published by the Federal Statistical. Swiss GDP showed an increase by 2.0% in 2014, in line data recorded in 2013 (+ 1.8%); the impetus came from foreign trade and investment, not to mention the service sector, in particular the wholesale trade as well as some export industries. The financial sector, however, after the strong growth of 2013, slowed.

Zurich (+ 2.8%) and Ticino (+ 2.6%) are the regions that have the best results, due to the non-financial services and the retail sector. The Great Regions "Central Switzerland "and" Eastern Switzerland " registered progressions more moderate, at 1.5%.

The cantons which registered a higher growth were Appenzell (3.7%), Jura (3.4%) and Basel-Country (3.3%). These increases are due to the good results achieved by the non-financial services and trade. The canton of Uri, for its part, presented in 2014 a negative result (-0.9%) caused by the difficult situation in the non-financial sector that caused cuts of employees.

The canton of Zurich, by itself, contributes to national growth for one third, which results not only by the relative importance for the Swiss economy (22%), but also by the significant growth (+ 2.8%), which recorded in 2014.
