UBS is warning clients over Bitcoin’s bubble

UBS thinks cryptocurrencies are in a "speculative bubble." There are over 1,000 cryptocurrencies, bitcoin being the biggest by market capitalization, and many have seen huge rises in value over the past few years. Bitcoin for example is up over 470 percent year-to-date.

"We think the sharp rise in cryptocurrency valuations in recent months is a speculative bubble," UBS wrote in a white paper published last week.

Winterthur bars introduce secret code system to help women in the night

Winterthur is introducing a new code to help tackle sexual harassment, reported The Local. Anyone who feels unsafe or uncomfortable on a night out due to unwanted attention can simply approach a member of staff and ask, "Is Luisa there?". Staff can then take measures to help her, including involving security staff, taking her to a safe place or calling her a taxi. There are 10 participating establishments at present, with more expected to follow.

The Raj Pink, the World’s largest Pink Diamond, will be the Top Player on Geneve

Sotheby’s will be presenting ‘The Raj Pink’, the world’s largest known Fancy Intense Pink diamond, weighing 37.30 carats. It will headline the auction house’s Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels sale in Geneva on November 15.

“The discovery of any pink diamond is exceptional, but the Raj Pink’s remarkable size and intensity of colour places it in the rarefied company of the most important pink diamonds known,” says David Bennett, Worldwide Chairman of Sotheby’s International Jewellery Division.

Luxury tax becomes a hot topic for Macron

Following a couple of weeks of public uproar after the French government said it was going to scrap a wealth tax that applies to personal assets of more than $1.5 million, Emmanuel Macron’s administration will propose a tax on luxury yachts, supercars and precious metals in France’s 2018 budget.

Macron, a former Rothschild banker, has been trying to shake off the label of “president of the rich,” but the September proposal of replacing the tax on high-end assets such as jewellery with just a real estate tax didn’t help his cause.

Swiss rate of guns is high, mass shooting is rare

Switzerland has the highest gun ownership rates per capita among its neighbors and other Western countries, but mass shootings are rare, local media reported Thursday.

This was highlighted in Swissinfo, the website of the Swiss national broadcaster, after the mass shooting in Las Vegas in Nevada, the United States claimed the lives of 59 people and wounded hundreds of others this week.

Swiss companies: highest salaries for CEOs in Europe

The chief executive officers of Switzerland’s top firms take home almost double the median salaries of Europe’s 100 biggest companies, according to a study by consultants Willis Towers Watson.

The Eurotop 100 study, presented on Thursday, studied the direct remuneration – not including pension or bonuses – of the CEOs of the 100 most highly capitalised blue-chip companies in Europe.

UBS France : La Maison de Gestion is the house for wealth management

UBS France’s new 4.5 billion euros wealth management division, La Maison de Gestion, is looking at hiring new staff to grow the business, the company said on Tuesday.

The Swiss bank’s La Maison de Gestion arm was formed from a deal struck in December last year when UBS France agreed to buy the local private banking business of Italy’s Banca Leonardo. The new division was formally launched on Tuesday. With the transaction in France, UBS thus has acquired the access to the circle of super rich individuals and families.
